GEOPHYTIC
PELARGONIUMS
Craib, Charles. Geophytic Pelargoniums,
Field and Cultivation Studies of Pelargonium Section Hoarea. Umdaus
Press, Hatfield, Pretoria, 2002.
This book, beautifully illustrated by Gillian Condy, discusses
26 Section Hoarea Pelargoniums with specific reference to
their autecology and
cultivation.
The book has been out of print since 2002 and has, since then,
become a collector’s item. As the print run was numbered
this book cannot be reprinted without a revision of the text.
This is unlikely as the
author Charles Craib is busy writing several other books which
will appear during the coming years.
A few books are available and these can be signed by the author if required.
U.S. $350.00 per book excluding postage and packaging.
HYSTRIX
Hystrix was a journal published by the Species Section of the
South African Pelargonium and Geranium Society which was based
in Johannesburg,
South Africa. The Society was closed a few years ago.
The publication focussed on the study of plants in habitat and
included detailed information on the cultivation and propagation
of various
Geraniaceae. Each of the journals currently available is briefly
described below. The prices given are in U.S. $s and exclude postage
and packaging.

HYSTRIX, NATURAL HISTORY AND
CULTIVATION SERIES
Three of these were produced between 1992 and 1995. The emphasis
is entirely on the autecology and cultivation of pelargonium
species in
the first two. The third, which is probably the best known,
published in May 1995 concerns the autecology and cultivation
of all species
in the Genus Sarcocaulon.
A brief description of the three publications follows below.
